People Make Games take a took a tour of VRChat and interviewed a whole range of people to find how they were making this new frontier work for them.
At the same time that tech companies are talking about the metaverse and we’re all getting bored of their profit-focused sales pitch, VRChat’s grassroots community are working to create the future of human communication, not to make a profit, but for themselves.
Because VRChat removes all barriers that might limit them from creating and has little to no interest or ability to enforce copyright or remove not safe for work content, you can see a little bit of what humans actually want from a virtual reality metaverse, because you can see, given the most powerful tools and minimal oversight, what they’re choosing to build.
