8Chan Creator says ‘Shut the Site Down’

“Whenever I hear about a mass shooting, I say, ‘All right, we have to research if there’s an 8chan connection,’” said Fredrick Brennan about the online message board he started in 2013

“Shut the site down,” Mr. Brennan said in an interview. “It’s not doing the world any good. It’s a complete negative to everybody except the users that are there. And you know what? It’s a negative to them, too. They just don’t realize it.”

Recently, Mr. Brennan, who has begun attending a Baptist church, has tried to persuade Jim Watkins, a United States Army veteran who has been running 8chan since 2015, to shut down the site. He and Mr. Watkins live near each other in the Philippines, he said, and he often drives past Mr. Watkins’s house on his way to church.
